VidCon Gear

This past weekend was the digital/social media industry's biggest event, VidCon in Anaheim, CA. I went to help work with Endemol Beyond but got the opportunity to walk around and acquire some gear for pimping out my iPhone for all my future recording needs!

My favorites include a company called XSories which come from an action sports background and make gear for many of your action sports filming needs. They hooked me up with this dope tshirt along with their Me-Shot Deluxe package. The Me-Shot deluxe package includes and extender pole for iPhone filming along with an iPhone clip attachment AND a remote to wirelessly control your phone and ask it to record. Talk about the ultimate extender arm for shooting your own #selfies or filming yourself, by yourself, but still looking professional and not having that selfie arm. Checkout more of their gear at www.xsories.com.

I also got a great hook up from another action sports affiliated company (do you see a trend here?) called Cam Caddie who makes a variety of affordable camera rigs for both DSLRs and iPhones/iPads. With their help, I can now turn my iPhone into the ultimate recording rig w/ professional lighting, mic, and stabilizing. It comes with all sorts of great attachment pieces to have you rolling on the fly like a pro! The downside is their instructions are pretty whack. I went back to their booth to find out if they had better instructions anywhere to find out that they have online video tutorials (not necessarily my fav, but I'll take it). So be prepared for some setup time! Check them out at www.camcaddie.com.

And how could VidCon be complete without acquiring some makeup gear from my favorite beauty guru, Michelle Phan. Not only is she one of our biggest clients at Endemol Beyond, but she's also a sweetie and loves Apollo (honestly, who couldn't?). L'Oreal recently helped Michelle launch her own line of cosmetics called Em by Michelle Phan. I took home a blush and eyeshadow sample which rock! Their pigments are amazing and they're super long lasting. Two thumbs up on Em! Check out her full line at www.emcosmetics.com

Life After X

I'M MAKING A DOCUMENTARY! Life After X unveils the stories of the best action sports athletes on the planet as they confess the good, the bad, and the ugly of their industry and life after living under the spotlight of fame and glory. The rise and fall of action sports is a rarely examined topic and those within the industry pinpoint the key factors contributing to it and how it's affected their lives. My name is  Barrett Perlman   and  Life After X   is my passion  (project). But it's more than a passion project.  Everything in my life has brought me to this point and enabled me to tell this story.   From starting off as professional wakeboarder, to working as a TV and film producer today, all roads have led me to this: sharing with the world the evolution of action sports over the last 20 years and shedding light on where the athletes we idolized growing up have gone.  But my team and I can't make this documentary without your help! ...

RedBull BMX in Epecuen

Last night I joined some friends at RedBull HQ in Santa Monica for a screening of Danny MacAskill's RedBull project in Epecuen, Argentina. What an incredible film! Danny is currently in trials for BMX racing in the olympics but is apparently also quite the street rider. His project took him to the town of Epecuen, which had been flooded back in 1985. Only several years ago did the water subside to reveal the rubble of this humble town. Danny went there and OWNED it showcasing some serious skills, cahones, and incredible cinematic filmmaking true to RedBull's standards. Whether you're an action sports enthusiast or not, this video will truly inspire you to follow your dreams and do big things. It reminded me of why I still support action sports and why my niche in entertainment will forever be action sports. Take a look:
